홍경희 작가는 공예라는 분야의 범주에 머물지 않고 각종 장르를 넘나들며 시간과 경험을 통해 체득한 작가적 성찰을 조형으로 표현한다. 이번 전시의 주제인 ‘선’을 통해 작가는 단단하고 규정지어진 개념들 사이에 드러난 틈과 구멍을 모색한다. 이런 탐구는 정형적인 속성을 견디지 못해 늘 새로운 가치를 모색하는 예술가의 기질을 정확히 드러낸다.

선이 가진 속성 혹은 외형적으로 드러나는 형상을 단순히 은유하기 보다, 선이 구축하는 공간과 빈틈, 그리고 그 공간을 분할하고 가로지르는 선에 더 주목한다. 이는 아무것도 없음을 의미하는 무한의 공간 즉 우주를 상징하는 검은 철판 위에서 더욱 도드라진다. 직접 인지할 수 있는 바람, 흐름 같은 대지 위의 속성을 상징하지는 않지만, 일종의 생명력을 암시하게 된다. 이는 가늠할 수 없는 것 속에 시공간을 생성해 내는 선이 있기에 비로소 가능해진다. 작가는 이를 카오스가 환경으로 변화하는 과정을 형상화한다고 여긴다.

"우주의 질서는 한가지로 이야기하기 힘듭니다. 바람이 불고, 해가 나고, 풀과 나무가 자라는 사이로 우주는 우리가 가늠하기 어렵지만, 그 우주 속의 자연의 질서, 조형의 근원을 발견하게 됩니다. 저에게도 작업은 그러합니다. 어디에서 시작되었을 그 조형경험과 작업시간의 축적을 뚫고 창작의 순간과 마주하게 되면 온몸과 정신이 하나가 되어 그것을 만들고 있습니다."

 

Hong, Kyunghee employs artistic introspection of formative art through time and experience. For this exhibition, titled 'line', the artist explores gap and holes that are exposed between regulated concepts. The artist continuously explores new values and is impatience at typical attributes that accurately reveals the artist's characteristics. Rather than simply express the physical forms metaphorically, the artist appreciates the line that divides the space and simultaneously the line builds the space and gap. The infinity of space, in other words, that implies the universe which nothing exists, is exposed on a black iron plate. It indicates a kind of vitality that we could not feel through five senses. This is possible through lines, that generates space-time and the artist considers that chaos embodies the process that changes the environment. "An order of a universe can't be expressed into words. Although it is difficult to evaluate the universe, we could perceive the order of nature and the origin of aesthetics. This applies to my work as well. It is elaborated through aesthetic experiences and accumulated working hours that faces the moment of creation."
